Brush Lettering Workshop

In this hands-on intensive workshop, you will drive the process of drawing and refining custom brush lettering.

In this 7-hour session, you will be introduced to an effective technique to create brush lettering using defective calligraphic imprints as a starting point, with essential insights to deal with swashes and composition.

Attendees will use a combination of pointed brush calligraphy and sketching techniques to create appealing and refined lettering pieces. It is ideal for beginners as well as advanced letterers who want to improve their technique to draw brush letter shapes.

What you'll learn

What topics are you covering?

The workshop is 25% theoretical and 75% hands-on, covering topics such as: sketching techniques, best practices at sketching, optimising the design process, achieving personal results, letter design basics and advanced knowledge (according to the project). Martina provides insights on the professional work as a lettering artist in a Q&A session.

Instructor

Martina Flor combines her talents as both a designer and an illustrator in the drawing of letters. Based in Berlin, she runs one of the world’s leading studios in lettering and custom typography, working for clients all over the globe such as The Washington Post, Vanity Fair, HarperCollins, Etsy, Adobe, Mercedes Benz, and Lufthansa, i.a.

Martina Flor earned her Master’s in Type Design from the esteemed Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, The Netherlands. Since then she has dedicated a large part of her time to teaching lettering and type design. Martina travels extensively within and outside Europe to help designers cultivate their skills through workshops.
