ABOUT MARTINA FLOR


Martina Flor is a letterer and designer based in Berlin. She was born in Buenos Aires and moved to Europe to both studying and working. She studied Communication Design in Scola Elisava, in Barcelona, Spain, and later studied a Master in Type Design at The Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague, The Netherlands. Now she lives in Berlin where she runs her own studio for lettering and custom typography. She works for clients around the globe and travels quite a lot to give conferences and teach workshops.

TRANSPORTATION

You can reach the Studio easily by public transport. We are located at walking distance from berliner Ringbahn, U6 and U9. The following are the closest stations to the studio:

Here are some of the bistros and restaurants you can try:

Falafel Al Min: A small bistro where you can have delicious falafel and shawarma sandwiches. 

Shikgoo: Korean restaurant. Kind of pricey, but always good.  

St. Bess: Pizza restaurant.

Asia food: As the name can tell, this is a small bistro where you can find asian food at affordable prices.

 

ATRACTIONS

Berlin is an exciting city and one of the capitals for type design. Here are some tips for places you can visit for both, recreation and culture:

Klunkerkranich: Rooftop Bar with the best view over Berlin. It is hardly a secret anymore, so go ready to queue to enter. Sunsets are beautiful there and the place is super cool and unique.

Clärchens Ballhaus: This Berliner institution, currently a dance hall/restaurant/Biergarten combo, is certainly a must-go when visiting Berlin!

Three snacks you should try: Curry Wurst, Döner Kebab and Pretzel. Of course, there are many other traditional snacks and dishes you should try while in Berlin. If you want to enhance your Berlin food experience, we recommend you to follow the Instagram account @berlinfoodstories.

Berlin is a vibrant city with a rich typographic history and plenty of activities and places that would interest typography and lettering aficionados. Here are some suggestions:

1. Buchstabenmuseum (The Museum of Letters): This unique museum displays a collection of preserved signage and lettering from Berlin and around the world. It offers a fascinating insight into the evolution of typography and lettering styles.

2. Bauhaus-Archiv Museum: Although not solely dedicated to typography, the Bauhaus movement had a significant impact on modern typography and design. The museum showcases the works of influential Bauhaus artists and designers, including typography-related exhibits.

3. Street Art and Graffiti: Berlin's streets are adorned with vibrant street art and graffiti, some of which feature impressive lettering and typographic elements. Explore neighborhoods like Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, and Mitte to discover inspiring typographic street art.

4. The St. Oberholz Café: This popular café in Berlin-Mitte is known for its typography-themed interior design. It features typographic posters, quotes, and creative lettering on its walls, providing a cozy atmosphere for typography enthusiasts to enjoy a coffee while surrounded by inspiring visuals.

5. Museum der Dinge (Museum of Things): Located in the Kreuzberg district, the Museum der Dinge is dedicated to everyday objects and design artifacts. It showcases a wide range of objects, including packaging, posters, advertisements, and other items that exemplify the typography and graphic design of their respective eras.

6. P98 Gallery: P98 is an independent gallery in Berlin that focuses on graphic design, typography, and visual communication. The gallery hosts exhibitions featuring contemporary typographic and lettering works by local and international artists. It's an excellent place to discover new and innovative typographic styles.
